Quinn was born and raised in Hawaii where he attended Punahou School. (He will not boast by mentioning that Barack Obama also went to Punahou.) Matriculating at Williams College, he pursued a range of academic interests and aesthetic passions, chiefly Philosophy, Theatre, and Chemistry—the last of which has become one of his primary specialties as a tutor for both academic course work as well as standardized test prep. A balance of science and humanities has continued to define his professional pursuits; before settling in New York to tutor science, Quinn received a prestigious Hutchinson Fellowship for artistic pursuit at Williams, which sent him across the world, learning from and working with theatre companies in London, Amsterdam, Venice, and Mazatlan. Quinn continues to act—recently, he appeared on the TV show "Billions"—while tutoring Chemistry, Writing, ACT/SAT, and the ISEE/SSAT/SHSAT tests.
As an actor, Quinn understands like few tutors the importance in test prep of getting into character: of keeping calm and confident enough to treat the test as an elaborate game, one whose rules can not only be memorized but played fluently. For Quinn, a good test-taker has to be playful in combining techniques both to save time and check work. This is why he believes in cultivating an atmosphere of listening, patience, and persistence; his sessions constitute a dynamic interplay of humor, pep talks, and intensive focus on strategic methodology. As a result, Quinn works well with a broad range of students. He is especially sensitive to the needs of students who are anxious, or looking for extra motivation; they find themselves quickly comfortable not only with Quinn, but also with the material and their own learning process.
