ACT Registration Opens for 2025-2026: Smart Planning for NYC Families

by Jane Moskowitz

Registration for the 2025-2026 ACT cycle is now open!

The September ACT administration marks the first time that the paper test can be taken without the Science section, a decision that needs to be made at the time of registration (though it can be changed later). For that reason, this year, it’s more important than ever that you register for the test in coordination with your tutor to ensure that your registrations reflect not only your student’s prep timeline but also their overall prep strategy.

In addition, to make sure you register for enough test dates and secure favorable testing locations, we recommend you register immediately for two or three test dates. You can always cancel the unnecessary registrations at no cost. Register for the test here: https://my.act.org/account/signin.

Why now? Testing centers in prime NYC and Greenwich locations fill quickly. Students who wait often find themselves at inconvenient locations or suboptimal dates that conflict with school commitments.

For students requiring accommodations: Register for a standard test date first, then work through your school's learning specialist for accommodation requests via the Test Accessibility and Accommodations system. Early registration becomes even more critical here, since test centers have fewer spots for students with accommodations.

First-time registration takes approximately 30 minutes for either test and requires a recent photo of your student.

If you have any questions about your registration, please do not hesitate to reach out.

If your student is taking the SAT, those registrations are open as well—and similarly, we recommend registering in advance for a number of test dates to secure a good location. Register for the SAT at https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/dates-deadlines.
