Julie Wright began tutoring at age 16, while enrolled in a calculus class at the local university. There, she discovered that her own knack for the material was a gift she could share. Her classmates, all college students, quickly realized that she explained concepts in a clear and intuitive way and, before long, were requesting weekend tutoring sessions.

While a peer tutor for Harvard’s Bureau of Study Counsel, Julie developed a passion for empowering other undergraduates to overcome their fear of math. She continued tutoring throughout college as she earned her degree in Art, Film, and Visual Studies. Years later, after working at two art museums and moving to New York City, she chose to make teaching her career, becoming a math and test prep tutor for one of Manhattan’s leading tutoring firms.

Over more than a decade tutoring professionally in the city, Julie has worked with hundreds of students and taught SAT classes at many private schools, including The Chapin School, Trinity School, Grace Church School, Saint Ann’s School, and The Packer Collegiate Institute. She has created training programs for new tutors and led workshops on advanced strategies for improving math scores, as well as techniques for strengthening executive function skills through test prep.

In her tutoring practice, Julie is an expert at helping students with significant gaps in knowledge or a history of academic struggle achieve substantial score improvements. Her approach pairs rigorous content work with mindset coaching and habit retraining. She reads with students to deepen their engagement with complex texts, coaches them in real time through test sections to replace anxious habits with deliberate ones, and carefully scaffolds concepts not only to rebuild foundational knowledge, but to make it last.

Julie’s gift for understanding her students’ experience, paired with a steadfast commitment to tutoring as a craft, lies at the heart of her work with students who have ADHD and other learning differences. Devoted to helping them become stronger readers and thinkers, she regularly consults with psychologists on her approaches to teaching and is currently writing a test prep book specifically for these students.

Beyond tutoring, Julie loves reading novels in tiny coffee shops, eating Japanese food in Paris, and discovering new contemporary classical music. These days, she is cultivating budding interests in Aikido and epic historical fiction.
