A double Harvard graduate (A.B., cum laude, and M.F.A.), Matthew Christian is a highly experienced tutor specializing in academic support and standardized test preparation. Whether demystifying complex math concepts, guiding students in crafting compelling essays, or coaching them in the organization needed to excel across disciplines, Matthew aims to foster curiosity in how his students approach learning. He creates structured yet engaging experiences that build skills, lasting confidence, and joy in self-development. His long-term family relationships—often spanning several years—reflect his profound impact as both academic coach and learning catalyst.
During his academic career at Harvard, concentrating in Social Studies, Matthew conducted grant-funded thesis research in Asmara, Eritrea for his high-honors thesis. He also sang with the school’s oldest a cappella group, The Krokodiloes, and was an art editor of its famous humor magazine, The Lampoon. He subsequently earned an MFA in Acting, which afforded him the opportunity to interpret the great playwrights of past and present. He also spent time rolling around on the ground portraying zoo animals. Both are true. That is the nature of acting grad school.
In addition to tutoring, Matthew is an accomplished theater actor and singer who has performed on a national tour and with acclaimed Off-Broadway and regional theaters. His diversity of experiences make him a singular tutor: leading with warmth and humor, Matthew brings the creativity and presence of a performer into his tutoring sessions, allowing him to connect with students of all kinds. He has extensive experience supporting students with learning differences, including ADHD, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. Matthew also has a particular gift for guiding students through the task of writing personal statements, drawing on his own experience to help them feel more confident and comfortable with the art of self-expression.
Great actors know themselves well; Matthew believes the same is true for great students. The process of learning, like performing, begins with self-awareness—understanding how you think, what motivates you and where your strengths and challenges lie. Matthew mentors students on this journey of self-actualization, leading to true transformation.
