Michael’s education career began as a sophomore in high school, where he taught extracurricular courses to fellow Classics students and peer tutored for algebra and writing. At Duke, Michael finished the Latin program in three semesters and extended his studies into psychology, writing, and computer science. After graduating magna cum laude, Michael moved to New York and immediately started tutoring test prep and course support in various subjects. Twelve years of tutoring later, Michael’s students have been admitted into all eight Ivy League schools and New York’s top high schools, and Michael has written guides and prep material for the ACT, SAT, ISEE, and SSAT as well as co-written columns about standardized testing for the Huffington Post. Michael has also worked in conjunction with several schools in New York to develop curricula for classes on the ACT, SAT, and SAT Subject Tests.
Michael is also a screenwriter who has written everything from live comedy shows to viral digital videos. A longtime performer, Michael enjoys the challenge of explaining concepts and strategies in creative but logical and memorable ways. Michael also firmly believes that while tricks and shortcuts have value in test prep, they are far less important than a solid foundation of content and clear, confident reasoning which he tries to help his students develop. When he’s not tutoring, Michael is usually playing cards, recipe testing a new homemade ice cream, or watching an alarming amount of televised sports.
