Sean started teaching before he knew that’s what it was. At 12, he was refereeing soccer and umpiring baseball—that is, standing in the middle of a field full of older kids and parents, figuring out how to be clear, fair, and heard. Through high school he coached youth basketball and soccer, tutored classmates, and spent his summers as a counselor at a fully off-the-grid wilderness camp in Northern Ontario, leading multi-week canoe expeditions with no outside contact. Weeks deep in the backcountry with a group of teenagers will teach you a lot about patience, adaptability, and earning trust, lessons that still shape how he works with students today.

Sean graduated from Tufts, where he majored in English, minored in Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies, and played Division III lacrosse. After college, he moved from the D.C. area to Southern California to pursue screenwriting and stand-up comedy, and started tutoring professionally almost immediately. He’s been at it for nearly two decades now, working primarily in ACT/SAT and ISEE/SSAT prep. The comedy and screenwriting background still shows up in his lessons as a knack for timing, an instinct for making difficult material feel approachable, and a willingness to be a little weird if that’s what gets a concept to land.

Sean treats tutoring as a coaching relationship. He prepares, he strategizes, and he builds around the individual student’s goals and learning style. But maybe the most important thing he does is project genuine confidence in what his students can achieve—and make sure they believe it too. Outside of sessions, he’s usually hiking with his dog Feyd-Rautha, chasing ski days, or deep in a board game, a hard sci-fi novel, or his fantasy football league.
