Hunter has been tutoring professionally since his high school days in Maplewood, New Jersey, working one-on-one with peers in AP and Multivariable Calculus between soccer practice and sketch rehearsals. He continued throughout his undergraduate years at the University of Pennsylvania, where he co-founded one of the largest mentorship programs on campus and spent summers at local tutoring centers. Yet, Hunter’s passion for supporting students ignited in earnest upon graduation from Penn, when he began cultivating his extensive insight and expertise in the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and all math-related content from middle school pre-algebra to college calculus. In the decade since, Hunter has supported more than 1000 students, trained and mentored more than 200 new tutors, taught dozens of SAT/ACT/PSAT courses, delivered webinars and presentations to parents, students, and teachers alike, and written/reviewed hundreds of practice Digital SAT platform questions to further deepen his students’ understanding.
Hunter’s philosophy is simple: meet students where they are, foster relationships predicated on trust and collaboration, and empower students with the content and curiosity to seek for both the “what” and the “why.” He was fortunate enough to have thoughtful, engaging teachers during his own formative years—ones who believed in him—and as such, he’s fully aware of the incalculable impact that can have on a student in and out of academic spheres.
He has supported students of varying cognitive profiles, including those with attention deficit disorders, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, anxiety, depression, and combinations thereof; he’s worked with internationally ranked athletic recruits, philharmonic-level musicians, and aspiring Broadway stars; and he’s seen his students gain admission into all eight Ivy League schools. Ultimately, Hunter believes that there is no inherently boring or impenetrable subject, so long as the right teacher is there leading the way. To quote one of his old students, “I could learn anything if it was taught by Hunter.”
When he’s not fully immersed in quadratic equations or dangling modifiers, Hunter can be found performing written pieces, sketch, and improv in New York City. He’s a regular contributor and board member of Writers Read, a nonprofit organization that curates short, nonfiction narratives to promote performance opportunities for both emerging and established writers. He’s a graduate of the Upright Citizens Brigade and People’s Improv Theater, and he’s performed in various venues throughout the city.
If he’s not doing any of the above, he’s likely in his Greenpoint apartment with his fiancée, seeing if she’s okay if he put the Jets game on.
